When you’re driving the highway Belgrade-Nis , near Paracin you take turn to east, crossing Cestobrodica – the gate of Eastern Serbia, descending into the valley of the Black Timok, you enter in the municipality of Boljevac. The municipality covers area of 823 km2 with 22 settlements. In this live about 15000 inhabitants. The most important natural resources of the municipality Boljevac are: healthy environment, favorable climate, relief with cliffs, canyons, caves, clean rivers and numerous springs.

Mountain
Rtanj monumentale and calmly rises from the Crna Reka Valley and ends with the proper shape of the pyramid on the height of 1566 meters. The legend says that on this place was a palace of the wizard that was full of gold. Unfortunately, the fire burned the palace. Gold melted and ran down the walls creating a pyramid. Adventurers and mountain climbers always seize the opportunity to climb the mountain’s top where you can observe the Danube, the Avala mountain, the Kopaonik mountain, the Stara Planina as well as the city of Vidin in Bulgaria and a part of Bulgaria, when the sky is clear. That`s why people always say that climbing the Rtanj`s top is climbing the roof of Serbia. On the southeast side of the mountain Rtanj the rtanj tea is growing. It is well-known for its healing properties, exceptional aroma and taste. Because of its beauty, unspoiled nature and rare plant species, Rtanj is protected by the Institute for Nature Conservation.

The Great Brezovica spreads on the forested slopes of The South Kucaj at the altitude of 900 meters. In a beautiful environment, it is located The Hunting Lodge with 16 beds of an exceptional comfort. This object is managed by “Srbijasume”. In the Municipality of Boljevac there are 3 hunting grounds entrusted to “Timocke sume.” The total hunting area is 85,000 hectares. Major cultivated species of wildlife are deer, red deer, wild boar. The hunting grounds are well equipped with hunting and technical facilities (high hunting stands, feeding, watering).
Bogovinska cave is a protected natural resource of III category. With a length of over 6000 meters, it has been for long time the longest cave in Serbia. It is located in the municipality Boljevac, on the eastern edge of the South Kučaj, in the area of Bogovina village. From Boljevac distanced is 12 km, 62 km from Paracin, and 220 km from Belgrade. Bogovinska cave is one of the most beautiful caves in Serbia and one of the tourist gems of the municipality of Boljevac.
The arrangement for visitors started in 2008. It is arranged 540 meters track which is elevated from the river bed and allows easy access to the most beautiful cave rooms:

       The Concert Hall – northern wall of the
hall is lined with monumental decorations, with a dome and saliva colors. It
looks grand and imposing. It was named Concert Hall because of its acoustics. It
provides all of the necessary conditions for organizing musical and literary
contents.

      The Mining Hall – located on a terrace
on the right side of the river channel. It is dedicated to miners of Bogovina.

      The hall of Cyclops – has an abundance
of jewelry mostly of the stalagmite group. The central place is occupied by
Cyclops. Left from Cyclops there is a cave pillar, sumptuous, sparkling and
tawdry. It is named a Vlach bride. Between Cyclops and Vlach bride there is a
low stalagmite that looks like a mother with a child in her arms.

      The Haiduk’s Hall – is named after the
10 m high reddish colored stalagmites, , which symbolizes Haiduk Veljko. Emerged
from the darkness, near Veljko,  there is
his loyal and courageous companion – chuchuk Stana.

In the regulated
part exist a dozen of Halls rich in cave ornaments. Most important: Crystal
sparkling waterfalls, Chegar, Bride, Palisade, etc.

Water
resources
are an important tourism resource of Boljevac
Municipality. The most important water stream is Black Timok (Black River),
with tributary rivers Radovanjska, Mirovstica, Arnauta. The municipality is
rich and plentiful springs: spring of Black Timok in Krivi Viru (Pecura), springs
Lozica and Buk, spring in Lukovo, spring of Radovanjska river, Grozničevac spring,
spring of Mirovstica.

Pecura – There is a complex of springs of Black Timok in the village of
Krivi Vir. It consists of the main spring, and the other one that is not so
strong. In the Pecura complex there are 3 caves and one thermal spring with
water temperature of 21-22 Celsius degrees.

Also, close Pecura,  rises a huge rock, which is angled and it
seems that, at any moment it can break off and fall. For this rock are related
to many youthful adventures, and two tragic love stories. These stories are
related to the actual events of the early twentieth century.

The most important tributary of the Black
River Timok is Radovanjska River. This ten kilometer clear mountain water is
ideal for fishing. The trophy specimen of trout, ponds, old mill, beautiful
nature are its main characteristics . There are so many springs that their
enumeration may take a while. In the middle of the village Ilino, a strong
source of cold drinking water rises from the rock. Water is forwarded with
channels and pipes through the entire village. Ilino has all the
characteristics of the ethno village with preserved architecture.
